The Electoral Commission has revealed that provisional figures show an electoral turnout of 88 percent in Tuesday’s special voting exercise.
This means that around 12 percent of those who applied to vote have lost their right to vote in this year’s elections.
A total of 109,557 people made up of security personnel, the media and EC personnel requested to participate in the exercise carried out by the EC in the 275 districts of the country.
Speaking on the AM Show on Wednesday, the Election Commission’s Director of Elections Services said the Commission hoped to achieve its 100 percent turnout target.
“We would have been happy if everyone who applied had voted. The challenge is that if your name appeared on the Special Voters list and you did not vote yesterday, it means that you have lost your right to vote for 2020. ”
Dr. Serebour Quaicoe also revealed that EC officials whose names were not included in Tuesday’s special vote will be able to vote on December 7 along with the rest of the citizens.
These EC officials, he said, will be assigned to the polling stations where they registered to vote or in the vicinity of those voting centers so that they are not deprived of their rights.
Following the arrest of 2 voters who are believed to have taken photos of their ballots yesterday after voting, Dr. Quaicoe called for “prison sentences before the December 7 exercise to serve as a warning to others.”
The incident happened yesterday at the headquarters of the Kpeshie division in the Krowor constituency.
