President Nana Akufo-Addo says the government has secured € 71.5 million to build and equip 12 40-bed hospitals, with associated staff accommodation facilities for hospital workers, across the country.

Conducting the lawn mowing ceremony for the construction of the Mim Community Hospital on Sunday, he explained that the rationale for the construction of these hospitals is to ensure access to healthcare for all Ghanaians.

He said this will be done by improving existing health facilities and building new ones in places where they don’t exist in the country.

According to President Akufo-Addo, funding for the construction of these hospitals has been obtained from Erste Group Bank AG and Česká Spořitelna as

The hospitals will be built by VAMED Engineering GmbH of Austria, a world leader in the construction of healthcare facilities.

The beneficiary communities are Jumapo, Kwabeng, Nkwatia, Achiase and Adukrom in the Eastern Region; Suame, Drobonso, Sabronum, Manso Nkwanta, Twedie in the Ashanti region and Kpone Katamanso in the Greater Accra region.

These projects, including Mim’s, are expected to be completed in 24 months.

“The initiation of these projects serves as further proof of the government’s commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and Universal Health Coverage for all Ghanaians,” said the president.

He added: “Bringing primary health care services to the doorstep of communities and individuals remains a priority agenda of my government, and will continue beyond 2020.

“These health infrastructures represent great assets for our nation and will help reduce morbidity and mortality from maternal and child health.”

Upon completion, the Mim Community Hospital will have an outpatient department and a public health wing, a surgical room consisting of an operating room, a recovery room and a sterilization unit.

It will also have a delivery unit and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU); laboratory, pharmacy and radiography; a 30-bed ward for men, women, and pediatrics; services block containing the laundry, warehouses and a cold room; and staff accommodation.

Other components of the project package include the supply and installation of medical equipment; One year warranty and maintenance after completion; and a training component for staff.

President Akufo-Addo urged the contactor, VAMED Engineering GmbH, to work assiduously and ensure that this project is delivered on time and on budget.

He said he was expecting that “they will employ indigenous people during the construction period.”

He assured Mim’s chiefs and people that the construction of the hospital project is a sign of greater things to come for the town.

The President added that “with four more for Nana and the NC, I hope that all of us gathered here will be present again, God willing, for the implementation of this project, once it is finished.”
