All officers will wear their regular uniforms.
A total of 62,794 security personnel will be deployed to provide security for the 2020 general election, Police Inspector General James Oppong-Boanuh has stated.
At a press conference on Wednesday, the IGP revealed that the security staff will consist of police officers, military officers and personnel from the Ghana Immigration Service, the Ghana Fire Service, the Ghana Revenue Authority, among others. .
“62,794 security personnel from the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Fire Service, the Ghana Prison Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, the Ghana Revenue Authority Customs Division and the Armed Forces Ghanaians are being deployed for elections.
“All the personnel I mentioned will be in their regular uniforms with the exception of the officers of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Police Service and the Office of National Investigations who will remain invisible,” said the IGP.
The IGP also warned that its team will ruthlessly treat people who foment problems on Election Day.
“The security services are very familiar with the laws and any person or group of people who breaks the law will be served.”
