Ghanaian Immigration Service personnel in Aflao arrested 57 Ghanaians and other West African nationals who were attempting to enter and leave Ghana via unapproved routes.
The travelers, made up of 21 women and 36 men, 40 leaving and 14 entering, had 30 of them Ghanaians, 10 Togolese, 4 Beninese, 7 Nigerians and 6 Nigerians.
They were apprehended at 2:20 p.m. on November 30.
The commander of the Aflao sector, Chief Superintendent Frederick Baah Duodu, told the Ghana news agency that the command had warned and released the Ghanaian travelers, while the other citizens were being processed to be handed over to the police. .
He advised all travelers to comply with the President’s directives on the closure of the country’s borders, adding that it is still in effect and the Command promised to enforce it.
Chief Supt Duodu said that people who wish to travel outside or within the country must do so through alternative means; air borders.
“The President, in March of this year, ordered the closure of all our borders. Currently, air borders are open but land borders remain closed. So my advice to people who want to go into or out of Ghana is that they should go through the airports, ”he said.
“As long as the land borders are closed, we will do everything possible to dissuade people from disobeying that directive.”
He praised border security agents for their commitment to enforcing the directive and warned officials intending to exploit the system to desist.
“Officers found for misconduct will be dealt with severely,” he said.
