Real Madrid’s defense remains exceptional
After a successful 2019-2020 La Liga campaign, Los Blancos boasted statistically the best defensive result in the top five leagues in Europe by conceding just 25 goals in 38 league games, with 19 clean sheets. Last season’s triumph was tough amid the lack of goals, but Zinedine Zidane’s team knew how to keep their balance no matter how aggressive their rival was.
With reinforcements such as Ferland Mendy and Éder Militão added to Madrid’s star-studded rear, the defense seemed impregnable to most of the best Spanish teams. Last season’s defensive improvement was the most important factor in winning the La Liga title, and despite recent injuries at the right-back position, it’s no wonder that Merengues continues to keep three clean sheets in four games.
While the all-time great Spaniard Sergio Ramos leads from behind, Madrid are doing the right thing on defense since football returned, and fans have never been more satisfied with defense.
