Real Madrid withstood a second-half comeback from Inter Milan, clinching a late winner and getting the three points they needed against Inter Milan. But what next?

It is rare that Real Madrid have a game without any drama. Their victory over the weekend against Huesca was the only time in 2020-2021 that Los Blancos achieved a victory and even then they were out of place until Eden Hazard’s wonderful goal from a distance at the end of the first half.

The Whites dominated the first half of their match against Inter Milan, despite conceding a goal to Lautaro Martínez after an astonishing assist from Nicolo Barella.

But then, in the second half, Real allowed Inter to get back into the game with a pitiful defense. Somehow they stayed at 2-2, didn’t pay for some glaring misses and eventually won the game 3-2 after Rodrygo Goes’ wonderful goal in the 80th minute.

Here are five burning questions for Real Madrid heading into their next game against Valencia at Mestalla.

Will Marco Asensio go up to Valencia?

Marco Asensio is an important player for Real Madrid, because he is the only healthy left-handed attacker. That is why it is the most ideal option on the right side of the attack to grab goals. He scored three times after returning from injury this summer, but has not scored or assisted in the 2020-2021 season in any competition. (Warning: helped create Vinicius Junior’s goal in 1-0 win over Real Valladolid.)

Asensio was shocking against Inter Milan. He made a lot of bad passes, lost the ball frequently and was isolated. They were equally poor in their last three La Liga games, which doesn’t bode well for this weekend’s game against Valencia.

But remember, Asensio scored his first injury return touch against Valencia in June and then assisted Karim Benzema. The quality is there. The madridistas just need to see it.
