A 42-year-old man has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for posing as a lawyer for the suspects involved in the West Togoland case.

Dennis Eyram Benson was detained on Thursday, December 17, in the Kaneshie ‘2’ District Court, when he appeared to defend his ‘clients’, according to a press release issued by the CID’s Chief of Public Affairs, DSP Juliana Obeng.

It is reported that he has represented these suspects since the case began in September this year.

However, “his behavior aroused suspicions, which led the police to investigate his background and it turned out that he was not a lawyer,” says the CID.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting in investigations.

Background

The suspect had been representing arrested members of the Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF), who had been jointly charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, gun riot and participating in a campaign by a prohibited organization viz. , Western Togoland, and attend meetings. of the same.

They had attacked the Aveyime and Mepe police stations in the North Tongu district demanding that the region be an autonomous country known as Western Togoland on September 25.
