Izudeen Lawal, a 35-year-old man, was stabbed to death in Suame, a suburb of Kumasi.
Eyewitnesses report that the deceased was stabbed during a dispute with his cousin, Hamidu Fuseini, over family property.
In an interview with JoyNews, Suame District Police Commander Superintendent Emmanuel Asiamah said the suspect during the discussion pulled out a knife and stabbed the deceased 2 times in the neck on Monday.
According to him, Fuseini, after stabbing his brother, rushed to the police station to file a complaint for assault on the deceased, but his complaint was withdrawn when the deceased’s sister, Hajara Mohammed denounced the death of her brother.
For Hajara Mohammed, the sister of the deceased, the guilty must be treated according to the law.
He called on the authorities to establish institutions that can resolve family disputes that often occur in the zongos.
Madame Hajara, however, refuted claims that the incident had a political undertone as reported by a section of the media.
The suspect, Hamidu Fuseini, and the late Izudeen Lawal have been alleged to belong to two warring factions in a long-standing family dispute over a room in their family home.
