Some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and independent parliamentary candidates in Chiraa in the Sunyani West constituency in the Bono region have defected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
At a meeting organized by Bono’s Regional Secretariat, 15 members rejected the opposition NDC party, while 20 people who were originally members of the New Patriotic Party but who left to join an independent candidate were also welcomed into the party.
The meeting, led by Kwame Baffoe Abronye for the different groups in Chiraa, which was to gather votes for President Akufo-Addo and the area member of parliament, brought together 20 groups with more than a thousand members from various communities in Chiraa.
Ms. Akua Siraa, leader of the defected members, said that they have served and voted for the NDC for some years, but have observed the performance of the NPP Government in this short period, they did not need to waste any more time with the NDC and therefore Therefore, they decided to join the nuclear power plant.
He said that during his three years in office, the government had built several blocks of classrooms, ensured a stable electricity supply, provided free water and free education – something that he said the NDC was unable to do during its eight years in the power.
Bono Regional President Kwame Baffoe Abronye, speaking at the meeting, praised the defectors for their veracity and welcomed them into the fold, saying that President Akufo-Addo has performed better and therefore should be supported by all Ghanaians in their transformation agenda.
President Abronye urged party supporters to desist from voting “in a skirt and blouse” in the upcoming December elections.
Adding that the idea of voting for Nana Akuffo Addo and against the candidates for Parliament would not be a good decision.
Present at the meeting were the Regional Secretary Kofi Ofosu Boateng, the Deputy Organizer Kofi Darko, the Financial Secretary Mr. Henry Oppong, the Director of Communications Asare Bediako, Professor Tina Abrefa-Gyan Member of the Regional Campaign Team, the President of the Constituency Mr. Kusi Boadum, the Council of Elders and other high profile individuals.
