Which Real Madrid stars need to improve the most after the end of the international break in November and are Villarreal and Inter Milan waiting?
It has been a bumpy start to the 2020-2021 campaign for Real Madrid. There have been some incredible highs, like the 3-1 win over Barcelona at the Camp Nou, but there have been some embarrassing lows. Back-to-back losses to Cádiz and Shakhtar Donetsk were the lowest point in terms of quality of performances, but the recent 4-1 beating at Mestalla is the most disappointing.
Real Madrid will not have an easy schedule when they return from the international break in November. They must face Villarreal, who is second in the league. And then, a few days later, he has to face Inter Milan at San Siro after beating Antonio Conte’s team just 3-2 at home.
However, if these three players can step up and improve after the break, Los Blancos will like their chances of beating tough opponents, including Sevilla and Atlético de Madrid in December.
Marco Asensio
Marco Asensio has had some brilliant games this season. He completed five dribbles from the bench in just 33 minutes, including the one that led to Vinicius Junior’s winning goal in a 1-0 win over Real Valladolid. Asensio then followed up with a solid display in a 2-0 win over Levante at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
But lately Asensio has been lousy. He still hasn’t scored or assisted this season, which is very negative. Asensio scored three goals returning from injury last season, including a brilliant goal against Valencia with his first touch. As a left-hander on the right side, Asensio is expected to use his sweet shot to help Real find more goals. Unfortunately, that has not happened.
The 2020-2021 season is decisive for Asensio. Real Madrid already have their eyes on Kylian Mbappé, and Brahim Díaz and Takefusa Kubo are capable right-handers who are standing out on loan at the moment.
Asensio must step forward. His performances against Valencia and Inter Milan in recent games are certainly not cutting him off.
