3 dreamy January transfers and realistic alternatives to complete Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal squad

The January transfer window is fast approaching and Arsenal expect to be very busy.

Edu has already laid out the Gunners’ transfer plans saying the club is prioritizing a creative midfielder.

However, there are also reports that Mikel Arteta hopes to add another central midfielder and central defender as he looks to review his underperforming squad.

Taking this into account soccer, london check out some dreamy and somewhat more realistic transfers for Arsenal in each of those positions.

Center back

Dream: Dayot Upamecano

Arsenal have long been linked to French central Dayot Upamecano.

Dominant in the air and skilled on the ball with a rhythm to match, the RB Leipzig defender would fit exactly the profile of the player Mikel Arteta has been trying to bring to Emirates.

He also has a release clause in his newly signed contract that is reportedly around € 42 million, which would make him nearly affordable for the Gunners.

The only problem is that almost every major club in world football seems to be after him. Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool are just a few of the heavyweights who have expressed interest in the past. If it came down to a bidding war on those names, Arsenal probably wouldn’t have a chance.

Realistic: Sven Botman

A slightly more feasible acquisition would be that of Sven Botman from Lille.

Arsenal have a good relationship with the French team, having recently bought Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel from Stade Pierre Mauroy.

Botman, whom LOSC hired to replace Gabriel this summer alone, is a 6-foot-4 “Dutch defender who has won 74% of his aerial duels and 66% of his ground duels this season. His impressive form has helped the Lille to reach second place in Ligue 1 at the moment (above PSG), with the best defensive record in the division.

What makes the deal so plausible is the fact that Lille is currently in financial disarray, and as a result it will likely have to sell some of its most prized assets for reduced fees. £ 27 million is the reported asking price for Botman, and in today’s market it would be a big deal for the Gunners.

Central Midfield –

Dream: Yves Bissouma

There is a lot I like about Yves Bissouma.

The 24-year-old has been everywhere for Brighton this season, breaking the game, maintaining possession and helping connect the front and back.

However, the fact that this is the January window means that the Gaviotas are unlikely to want to sell their midfielder. Graham Potter’s team is in the middle of a relegation battle and can afford to let their best players go unless Arsenal makes them an offer they cannot refuse.

With the financial restrictions related to COVID currently in place at the club, that seems highly unlikely. If the Gunners want Bissouma, they will most likely have to wait until the summer.

Realistic: Joan Jordan

Sevilla midfielder Joan Jordan is a player Arsenal have been following since Unai Emery’s time at the club, so he is most likely to move in January.

The Spaniard is a high-energy central midfielder who likes to press high, but also fall deep to help develop the game in a similar way to Dani Ceballos.

Once again, the financial realities of the COVID pandemic will come into play here as Sevilla seek to raise funds by selling some players.

As a result, the 26-year-old could be available in January for around £ 32 million, despite having a £ 55 million release clause.

Offensive midfield –

Dream: Jack Grealish

How Arsenal would fare with a player like Jack Grealish this season.

The English international has been instrumental in Aston Villa’s surprising form this season, scoring five goals and providing eight assists in 14 Premier League appearances.

Their creativity and inventiveness in front of goal is exactly what the Gunners have lacked in games where they often had no idea how to create opportunities for their powerful front row.

Unfortunately for Mikel Arteta’s side, Grealish signed a new contract with Villa that ties him to the club until 2025. As a result, the West Midlanders are under no obligation to sell and will only accept offers that are far beyond Arsenal’s financial capabilities. at this time.

Realistic: Isco

The somewhat more achievable signing would be Isco from Real Madrid.

The Spaniard has hardly played for Zinedine Zidane’s team this season, having only started three games so far this season and is reportedly eager to leave the Bernabéu.

The 28-year-old’s inconsistency and current downward career path mean the deal would pose a risk to Arsenal. But if they can get him on loan until the end of the season, as reported, they would certainly bring a quality player to the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta refused to rule out a move for the Spaniard when asked about him after the Brighton match, so this could be the most likely move on the list.
