The Electoral Commission (EC) has said that the election results will be transmitted manually from all the collection centers to the national headquarters.

EC Vice President Dr. Eric Bossman Asare touted the effectiveness of the manual system and described it as “hassle-free standard”.

He indicated that the EC will implement measures so that the personnel in charge of the different electoral colleges “do their job well.”

Both manual and electronic processes were used to transmit results in the 2016 Ghana elections, but the electronic system was subsequently discontinued.

The EC led by Charlotte Osei said it was “compromised,” prompting the EC to request returning officials at the sorting centers to stop using it and go back to the manual system.

The country will go to the polls on December 7 and the EC has reiterated its commitment to ensure that no voter, including those in hard-to-reach areas, will be deprived of their rights.

“Even if it requires going to the communities by helicopter, boat or whatever means that takes us to these remote places, and if that means we should be there three days before the time, we will make provisions for that.” he said.

Dr. Bossman Asare further said that the Commission has procured rechargeable lamps for all centers, especially communities with energy problems.

“To vote, we will not need as much electricity to charge the kits that are being used. However, we recognize the use of electricity when counting, and the EC will provide rechargeable lamps to all polling stations, ”he said.

“As for the number of lamps, we will cover all polling stations, especially where electricity will be a challenge. We have budgeted in advance to make sure every part of the country is covered, even if there are no electricity-related issues, ”he added.

Regarding the printing of the ballots, the Deputy Commissioner told the Ghanaian Times that all political parties have received letters to send representatives to the various printers to supervise the process.

The printing of the ballots would end on November 20 and would have the stamp of all political parties to ensure they are insured, he said, adding that the candidates would have their faces on the papers, which is a “standard”.
