2020 election: polls cannot be manipulated – CE

The Electoral Commission (EC) is assuring the general public that the results of this year’s elections will not be manipulated.

The president of the Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa, in a press conference on Wednesday, affirmed that the rigorous but transparent and openly participatory nature of the electoral process makes the results not susceptible to manipulation.

According to her, beyond involving representatives of all the parties in dispute in the counting and matching processes, a new development has been introduced to ensure maximum inclusion and eliminate probable ambiguity.

“What we have done is introduce a regional collection center. Unlike previous elections, in which the electoral district collection results were sent directly to the national collection center, the electoral district results are sent to the regional collection centers where we also have the full participation of the representatives of each political party.

“The regional center collects results from all constituencies in that region, and therefore what is found on the regional summary and collection sheets reflects current events,” he said.

The EC chief said this while urging the general public to dismiss speculation about planned attempts to manipulate the results of Monday’s presidential and parliamentary elections.

She admonished Ghanaians to have faith in the Commission, as the final results will only reflect their genuine choices.

“When the results come from the regions, the party representatives review and verify them with what they have received from their own agents. Once they are happy with it, they add their signatures to it before taking it to the President’s office for certification, ”he added.

In the meantime, the Commission has also started publishing the presidential results for each region, even as the count continues at some collection centers in two regions.
