With about 18 days of the nation’s general elections, the issue of corruption is amplified in conversations and debates.
This was triggered by a series of events over the past week.
After the Corruption Risk Assessment report on the controversial Agyapa Mineral Royalties agreement by former Special Prosecutor (SP), Martin Amidu.
According to Amidu, who resigned on November 16, the deal was tainted by alleged bid rigging.
He cited executive interference and threats due to his anti-corruption investigations.
The former SP was also investigating the Director General of the Ghana Lottery Authority, Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, who has been in the news for breaking contracting laws and overseeing various infractions.
The issue of corruption has overshadowed debates over infrastructure and other concerns with some social commentators saying that Martin Amidu’s resignation will affect the fate of the current government.
