Parliament of Ghana
Following the mixed results of the various electoral districts thus far, this is the list of incumbent Members of Parliament who have lost their seats to their contenders in the December 7, 2020 elections.
1.Yaw Buaben Asamoa
The deputy for Adentan’s electoral district, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has lost his seat to the opposition Democratic National Congress.
The MP from the New Patriotic Party lost to Mohammed Adamu Ramadan of the NDC.
This is in addition to the number of seats the NDC won in this year’s parliamentary and presidential elections.
2. Abu-Bakar Saddique Boniface
The NDC parliamentary candidate for the Madina constituency, Francis Xavier Sosu, has won against Abu-Bakar Saddique Boniface of the NPP.
3. Major (rtd) Derek Oduro
He won by 61,274 votes, while the current deputy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) managed to obtain 46,525 votes.
The Deputy Minister of Defense Major (rtd) Derek Oduro has lost the seat of Nkoranza Norte.
The retired army officer was defeated by the leading opposition candidate to the Democratic National Congress, Joseph Kwasi Mensah.
Mensah got 15,124 votes while the incumbent got 10,978 votes.
Four. George Andah
Communications Deputy Minister George Andah lost his Awutu Senya West parliamentary seat to Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Gizella is Hannah Tetteh’s sister.
According to provisional results, Gizella Tetteh obtained 32,708 polls, while George Andah obtained 29,832.
The results make Mr. Andah a parliamentarian.
5. Hajia Alima Mahama
The member of parliament (MP) for the Nalerigu-Gambaga constituency in the northeast region is Hajia Alima Mahama lost her seat to the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Alhaji Baba Issifu Seidu, with 5,000 votes.
6.Barbara Asher Ice
Deputy Minister of Works and Housing Barbara Asher Ayisi lost her parliamentary seat in Cape Coast North to the Democratic National Congress.
The interim results indicate that the candidate of the Democratic National Congress, Dr. Kwamina Minta Nyarku, obtained 22,972 votes against 21,643 for Barbara Ayisi.
7.Adam Mutawakilu
Deputy Chief of Staff Samuel Abu Jinapor won Damongo’s seat, displacing the main opponent of the Democratic National Congress, Adam Mutawakilu, the incumbent.
Jinapor, who ran on the list of the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP), won 15,671 votes.
Mutawakilu got 13,330 votes.
8. Joseph Dindiok Kpemka
Deputy Attorney General Joseph Dindiok Kpemka has lost the Tempane constituency in the Upper East region to Lydia Akanvariba Adakudugu.
Kpemka, who was until Monday, December 7, 2020, the titular member of Parliament (MP) for the area, obtained 16,461 votes that represent 44.01% against 20,939; which represents 55.99%.
9.Barbara Oteng Gyasi
Barbara Oteng Gyasi, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, was ousted from the Prestea Huni-Valley seat by Robert Wisdom Cudjoe of the Democratic National Congress.
Madame Oteng Gyasi got 34,067 votes, while the NDC candidate got 56,464 votes.
