2 policemen, 2 civilians arrested for selling firearms
The Accra Regional Police Command arrested four people, including two policemen, for allegedly selling firearms and ammunition in Alajo, in the Greater Accra region.
They are Lance Corporal Emmanuel Abusah Yao, 38; Lance Cabo Sulayman Yusuf, 31; Abdul Samed Yussif, 40, and Kwame Dokpor, 31.
They were arrested when they offered weapons for sale to undercover police officers investigating the activities of firearms dealers.
Police get a tip
Reporting to the Daily Graphic, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Ms Effia Tenge, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said that the police collected intelligence that some men were selling weapons and ammunition at Achimota in Accra.
She said that when police followed up, they found Lance Corporal Abusah and Dokpor in a taxi that Dokpor was driving at a location in Achimota.
When police posed as interested buyers, Abusah told them he had more guns for sale and that they planned to meet on December 18, 2020 for the transaction.
On the scheduled date, the police surveillance team met with the suspects in Alajo and arrested the four suspects.
A field search conducted revealed a bag Yussif was carrying that contained an unregistered pistol, 20 rounds of nine-millimeter (9mm) ammunition, 59 rounds of M16 ammunition, 38 rounds of AK 47 assault rifle ammunition, and 58 rounds. of G3 Ammunition.
DSP Tenge said that during interrogations, it was discovered that Abusah and Yusuf were both Lance Corporal attached to the Visibility Unit at the Ghana Police Service headquarters in Accra.
He said the gun and ammunition had been withheld while investigations continued.
