Two people, including a Burkinabe, were granted 1.6 million GHC bail yesterday for allegedly conspiring to steal 100 kg of gold valued at $ 5.8 million.
According to the condition of the bond, each of them must produce two bonds whose net salary must not be less than 1,000 GHC.
Seth Owusu and Bashiru Pafadnam, the Burkinabe, would appear again on October 7.
This was after his attorney, Mr. George Asomani, argued that his clients had substantial persons to act as guarantors and that they would be used in court.
Abubakar Sadick, an accomplice, is on the run.
The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sylvester Asare, told the court chaired by Judge Emmanuel Esaandoh, a superior court judge who has additional responsibility as a circuit court judge that the defendant stole the gold that belonged one Raymond Turckson Kobina, a businessman. .
He said Sadick, who was a Kobina employee, conspired with Owusu and Pafadnam to steal the 100 kg of gold and subsequently caused a company called ITALTEC Ghana Limited to ship 5 kg valued at $ 290,000 (1,595,000 GHC) to Dubai. in the United Arab Emirates.
ASP Asare told the court that in July this year, Kobina received 100kg of gold from different miners and was waiting for potential buyers.
The court heard that on July 26, Sadick, who knew where Kobina was keeping the gold, stole and left home.
Later that day, he said that Kobina could not find the gold where he kept it.
ASP Asare stated that Kobina became suspicious and filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service.
Thereafter, the prosecutor said that attempts to reach Sadick by phone were unsuccessful as Sadick did not respond to his phone calls.
ASP Asare said that Kobina later received information that Pafadnam was seen at a refinery with amounts of gold suspected to be those of the whistleblower.
The policeman stated that Pafadnam was arrested and led the police to arrest Owusu.
The prosecutor said that it came to light in the course of the investigations that the defendant delivered the 100 kg of gold to ITALTEC, of which 5 kg was sent to Dubai.
