The Tarkwa-Nsuaem MP has revealed that a person has been detained in connection with the attack on him and his family over the weekend.
Mireku Duker said the suspect is currently in police custody.
“The police were brought in after the incident and they arrested the suspect,” he told JoyNews’ FrontDesk on Monday.
The MP’s family was attacked on Saturday around 3 in the afternoon.
The MP narrated that the incident was triggered when a child was taken out with a knife on suspicion that he was recording the bullies who perpetuated the act, while they were misbehaving at a funeral.
“We usually have funerals in front of one of our family homes. So a boy, aged 10-13, was holding a phone when the bullies were misbehaving.
“Thinking that the boy was recording them, one of the bullies called the boy to bring his phone so they could verify if he was recording or not.
The MP said that while the phone was being inspected, one of the thugs pulled a knife from the boy.
“Then one of my nephews asked them why they were attacking the young man and that provoked them,” he said.
He added that a lady who was also at the scene was not forgiven when she questioned the thugs why they were carrying out the attacks.
The MP said that after the attack, his family was taken out of Dompin to ensure their safety.
However, he says four others are still on the run.
