Garmin, the maker of GPS technology and wearable devices, has reportedly been hit by the WastedLocker ransomware in a cyber attack demanding $ 10 million to release its data. According to the report in BleepingComputerThe company has been under worldwide disruption since Thursday.
The cyber attack has affected consumers using the running and cycling exercise sessions on the Garmin Connect app and pilots using the aviation database services, and all call centers are closed.
“We are currently experiencing a disruption affecting Garmin.com and Garmin Connect,” says a message on the company’s website. “This outage also affects our call centers, and we are currently unable to receive any calls, emails, or online chat. We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and apologize for this inconvenience.”
Garmin confirmed through its frequently asked questions that it had no reason to believe that user data has been affected.
“Garmin has no indication that this disruption has affected your data, including activity, payment, or other personal information.”
BleepingComputer Screenshots were allegedly sent showing long lists of the company’s files encrypted by the malware, with a ransom note attached to each file.
