Galaxy Buds Plus: where to buy and what you should know

In recent years, there has been an explosion in the number of truly wireless headphones, wireless headphones that connect to each other, to the point that it’s hard to say which ones are the best. However, Samsung could take the crown with its Galaxy Buds Plus. Why? Let me explain.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus: What Makes Them So Cool?

I’ve used a lot of truly wireless headphones, from Google’s Pixel Buds to Jabra’s Elite 75t and many others. However, the ones that stand out are Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Plus. Where other pairs like the Pixel Buds are more stubborn and, as a result, may not be for everyone, the Galaxy Buds + pretty much ticks all the important boxes.

Samsung’s headphones are most notable for their ridiculously good battery life. Buds handle 11 hours on a single charge on their own and another 11 hours ready to go inside the case. The vast majority of people will never use their headphones for more than 4 hours straight, but the amazing thing about Galaxy Buds + is that they will never have battery anxiety. That also helps with the ability to charge them wirelessly.

In our February review of the Galaxy Buds Plus, one of the things I praised the most was how Buds integrate with Spotify. A simple long press on the touchpad of a headset starts your songs through Spotify, even if you were using another app first. For Spotify subscribers, this is just a selling point!

Another advantage is also the sound quality. It’s pretty decent! You shouldn’t expect world-class audio and deep bass, but if you’re looking for decent quality from an affordable, compact pair of headphones, this is a great deal. Here is an excerpt from our previous review:

The sound profile is fine with a decent amount of bass and balanced audio on the highs and lows. There are a few different profiles in the Samsung app, but I decided on “Dynamic” as the best. “Normal” sounds pretty bad, “Bass Boost” confuses vocals, and the rest seems too soft to me.

In the months since that review, too, I’ve only come to better appreciate the quality in “Dynamic” mode after spending time listening while connected to a Samsung device. The short story is basically: it’s not that bad.

As also mentioned, Galaxy Buds Plus pretty much nails the rest of the experience. The fit will be solid for most people, as will the price. Better yet, it looks like Buds + is almost constantly on sale.

What colors are available?

Perhaps one of the best things about the Galaxy Buds Plus is that you can buy a pair in several different colors. Where AirPods are only available in white and Google is delaying the different Pixel Buds colors, Samsung has an advantage with several different color variants available. As shown below, Galaxy Buds Plus colors include:

Do they work with my phone?

Yes, the Galaxy Buds Plus will work with almost any smartphone. You can pair them to any device using only the Bluetooth pairing menu, and that process works on both Android and iOS.

However, remarkably, Galaxy Buds Plus works considerably better with a Samsung Galaxy smartphone. There, a suite of apps is pre-installed that allows for super-fast pairing and greater controls over the headphones. Also, outbreaks sound Better when connected to a Galaxy device because they can be pulled from Samsung audio codecs that other phones may not support. However, to get controls on sound quality, noise cancellation, and custom buttons, you’ll need to download other apps from the Play Store.

What’s the trick?

What is it incorrect with Galaxy Buds Plus? Really, there isn’t much. As mentioned, the sound quality is decidedly better when connected to a Samsung phone, but it is not yet bad elsewhere. The glossy case picks up scratches and oils from your hand quickly, but that feels less. Some of the gestures, like Samsung’s recent addition of tapping to adjust the volume, can be quite demanding.

The biggest annoyance to me, actually, is just the apps you have to install to gain control over these outbreaks. If you are not using a Samsung phone, you must install two separate apps to get control over the sound and any kind of customization. The application itself also tends to have errors. I also had trouble with the size of the case, which is a bit thick, but it really is a very small problem – it does fit in a coin pocket after all.

Where can I buy Galaxy Buds Plus?

Samsung charges $ 149 for the Galaxy Buds Plus, a fairly reasonable price if you ask me. However, as mentioned above, they are often for sale! In fact, they’ve been on sale for as little as $ 90 for a refurbished pair. You can watch 9to5Toys for all the best deals on Galaxy Buds and thousands of other products.

Where to buy, however? Samsung sells these headphones pretty much everywhere, and we’ve listed several below.
