G4, the video game-focused television network, has caused a possible return in some form in 2021.
A teaser video that debuted during Comic-Con @ Home on IGN Live hinted at the return of the network. The teaser included a series of references to jokes from the network’s shows, including the Golden Mullet Award, Sessler’s Soapbox, and Rot Gut. It ends in a game of Pong (the game played at the beginning and end of the network’s lifespan), before being interrupted by the appearance of the G4 logo, the date 2021, and a slogan, “We never stop playing.”
What that really means is not entirely clear at the moment. The original G4 network stopped streaming in 2014 – it could be that the network itself is coming back, it could be an online channel, or it could be taking a completely different shape.
G4TV’s Twitter account has apparently been revived, simply to post the trailer. Former host Adam Sessler called it “a curious turn of events,” while former X-Play presenter Morgan Webb joked, “I’m impressed that someone else remembered the twitter password.”
Attack of the Show host Olivia Munn referenced her time on the show in response to the provocation, as did fellow AotS host Kevin Pereira, who wrote:
int main () {
// WTFBBQOMGGKTHXBYE
printf (“Hello, world!”);
return 2021;
}
Other former hosts like Alison Haislip also commented on the comeback, saying “(Plus, there are legitimate tears in my eyes hearing those 3 notes right at the end …),” which Tiffany Smith responded in solidarity with the breakthrough, while Jessica Chobot joked “WHAT DOES IT MEAN ?!
G4 opened in 2002 and aired shows like X-Play, G4tv.com, and Attack of the Show! The network helped launch the careers of Geoff Keighley, Olivia Munn, and other notable figures in game coverage.
