Additional photos of BMW’s new pre-2022 GT3 challenger were unveiled during a presentation of both the road and race car displacement of the new BMW M4 on Thursday at the Red Bull Ring.

Both cars, which remain in prototype form, were unveiled in the run-up to this weekend’s MotoGP race, which is sponsored by the German manufacturer.

It was confirmed during the presentation that the M4 GT3 will be powered by a newly developed straight six-cylinder twin-turbo engine.

Both road and race cars will use “M TwinPower Turbo technology” and a “high-revving concept” according to BMW, which says the engine was developed from “performance characteristics taken directly from motorsport.”

The official world premiere is scheduled for next month.

“I can not wait to take the BMW M4 GT3 on the starting grid,” said BMW factory manager Philipp Eng. “The BMW M4 GT3 will take part in its first race next year and will be able to prove how it performs under competitive conditions.

“I’m sure it has what it takes to continue the long and successful tradition of BMW M cars.”

Customers’ versions of the race car are expected for 2022, despite what is believed to be a delay in the updated GT3 regulation until 2023 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
