Broadcaster Thom Brennaman will no longer call NFL games on FOX Sports after using a homophobic slur on the air on Wednesday night while calling a baseball game.

Brennaman, who has named NFL games for FOX, has been suspended as the Cincinnati Reds’ play-by-play voice and will also not be on the NFL.

“FOX Sports is very disappointed with Thom’s remarks during Wednesday’s Cincinnati Reds telecast,” the network said in a statement. “The language used was appalling, unacceptable and not representative of the values of FOX Sports. Because it relates to Brennaman’s FOX NFL role, we’re moving forward with our NFL schedule that will not include him. ”

Brennaman said the words “One of the fg capitals of the world” during the Reds game, with no other context, when he thought to think the broadcast was on a commercial shift. Shortly afterwards, he apologized and was then taken off the game.

“I made a remark earlier last night that I think I was out of the air that I am deeply ashamed,” Brennaman said on the air. ‘When I’m hurting someone, I can’ t tell you how much I’m saying from the bottom of my heart that I’m so sorry. I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith. ”
