Fortnite Chapter 2 season 4 launches Thursday. In previous years, the switch from one season to the next was filled with a gigantic in-game event, but this time the real show is publicist Epic Games’ legal action against Apple and Google.
The most popular Battle Royale game latest season will not be available to some mobile players it was removed from the Apple App Store as Google Play Store earlier in August. Epic tried to round out a 30% fee, the two tech giants charged developers for transactions on their platforms, and in turn Apple and Google banned the game.
When does season 4 start?
The next season starts today. The update v14.00 can be downloaded early this morning after each downtime of the server.
Season 4 will be available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Android and Nintendo Switch. Players on Mac and iOS devices, on the other hand, may not play the new season as it begins, as further explained.
What is the theme for the season?
Epic joins Marvel for season 4. This time, instead of temporary tie-ins like with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: endgame in previous seasons, there’s a whole comic strip line that will play out in the coming weeks.
In a strip that appeared in the last days of season 3 in the lobby of the game, Thor appeared on the island and warned of the arrival of Galactus, the swallower of worlds. He’s not only like other Marvel heroes, and villains, have also shown up to take on the planet eater.
As Marvel heroes and villains have made their way to the island, so have their powers and weapons. Players will be able to use Doctor Doom’s Arcane Gauntlets, Silver Surfer’s Board or an Energy Rifle made by Stark Labs. There are also new locations such as Doom’s Domain, Sentinel Graveyard and the SHIELD Helicarrier.
Players will need to purchase the Season Pass Battle Pass to get their range of Marvel outfits, such as She-Hulk, Iron Man, Wolverine and Great.
Will I be able to play the new season on iOS and Android?
Epic is in the middle of a legal battle with both Apple and Google. On August 13, Epic tried to get the 30% fee that developers have to pay for transactions done in the App Store and Google Play Store through the implementation of a system called the Fortnite Mega Drop, which allows players to purchase V-Bucks , the in-game currency, directly from Epic and by cutting Apple and Google.
Apple was the first to respond by removing Fortnite from the App Store. In response, Epic released a video parodying the famous Macintosh ad based on George Orwell’s “1984” and also filing a lawsuit against Apple for anti-competitive practices. It was submitted the same day when Google removed the game from its store. Epic then started in #FreeFortnite social media campaign and will even in Free Fortnite Cup Tournament on 23 aug.
Due to the legal actions that are taking place, iOS or macOS users will not be able to download Fortnite or updates of the game if they have already installed it on their device. Epic confirmed this Wednesday with an update on their blog.
This has led to people trying to sell iPhones with Fortnite installed for thousands of dollars on eBay. Epic sought a temporary restraining order to conduct business as normal while the legal battle continues, but Apple filed a legal response, saying Epic can only return after it has been played by the rules. A judge over the case is scheduled for next week.
As for Android players, they still can install Fortnite on their devices. The only difference is that they have to download the game directly from Epic or through the Samsung Galaxy Store instead of the Google Play Store.
