A news reader revealed that he discovered he had cancer when a concerned viewer e-mailed him pointing to a lump on his neck.
Victoria Price, a news reader for WFLA-TV in Tampa, Florida, said “her own health was the furthest thing from my mind,” she said of the coronavirus pandemic.
She said she “couldn’t be more grateful” for the viewer who “went out of her way” to email her.
‘A little ~ personal news ~ to share. It turns out I have cancer. And I owe it to one of our wonderful @WFLA viewers for getting my attention. After tomorrow I will be out of work, but I will see you soon, ” he wrote on Twitter on Friday.

Ms. Price had recently been promoted to an investigative reporter and was working “endless shifts in an endless news cycle.”

‘Until a viewer sent me an email last month. She saw a lump on my neck. He said it reminded him of hers. His was cancer. It turns out that mine is too.
She said there was a delay in her diagnosis due to COVID, but on Monday she was admitted for surgery to remove the tumor, her thyroid and a pair of nearby lymph nodes.
He added: ‘The doctor says it is spreading, but not too much, and we hope this is my first and last procedure.
When the comments came to wish the journalist luck with her recovery, one said that she could not see any lump. She responded with a screenshot of her own news reading (pictured) to better show her outstanding thyroid
‘If I had never received that email, I would never have called my doctor. The cancer would have continued to spread. It is a terrifying and humiliating thought.
She said she would ‘always be grateful’ for her viewer’s email, adding: ‘I will always be grateful to the woman who went out of her way to email me, a total unknown.
‘She had no obligation to do it, but she did it anyway. Talk about being on your side, huh?
‘The world is a difficult place these days. Don’t forget to take care of yourself. Take care of each other. I love you all and see you soon. VP.

She wrote: ‘It is not the easiest to see. It’s not super obvious unless you know what to look for.
‘This screenshot shows it a little better. I’m still learning, but the doctor explained that the tumor is in the middle of my thyroid, pushing the glands up and out, hence the subtle bulge. ”
It is not the first time that a thyroid problem has been detected after a patient appeared on television.
Australian Red Ten reporter Antoinette Lattouf received a letter from grandmother Wendy McCoy last November saying she had seen a lump protruding from her neck.
Lattouf, previously unaware of the lump, decided to have it checked and found he had a life-threatening cyst in his throat.
