First look at Elon Musk’s personal Tesla Model S with color prototype

We have a first look at Elon Musk’s personal Tesla Model S with a new color prototype that will apparently be made possible by a new paint shop.

For the past year, Elon Musk has been talking about Tesla building the “most advanced paint shop” in Gigafactory Berlin.

The CEO spoke about new multi-layer paints:

Giga Berlin will have the world’s most advanced paint shop, with more dazzling layers of colors that subtly change with the curvature.

Musk said Tesla is working on a new ‘deep crimson red’ that is becoming his favorite feature.

Now a Tesla Model S with a special color was seen in the executive parking of the SpaceX headquarters:

It led people to speculate that the Model S is Musk’s personal Tesla and that the color could be the new “deep crimson.”

The CEO confirmed that it is a “color prototype” that Tesla is developing for the new paint shop.

It’s been a while since Tesla has introduced new color options.

By contrast, in recent years, Tesla has narrowed color options to streamline production and simplify service repairs.

However, we may have to wait a while to see the new colors, as Musk has linked them to Gigafactory berlin online.

Tesla is currently building Gigafactory Berlin in Germany, and is expected to be complete by the summer of 2021 to produce Model Y first.

Musk says the new paint shop and colors will hit other vehicles, but it could take a while:

To be clear, Fremont and Shanghai will also be updated over time, but it is difficult to adapt these improvements to a functioning paint shop.

As we recently reported, Tesla built a new paint shop for the Model 3 in Fremont, and plans to re-commission its old paint shop as Model Y production increases.

The taking of Electrek

Unfortunately, the images are in the shade and we are not seeing the color very well.

From what I can see, it’s similar to the “signature red” that Tesla had for the first Model S vehicles, but it looks a bit darker.

Again, that’s hard to say because of the shade.

Also, Elon said the color changes with the light, so I’ll wait to judge it until we look better.
