Fire Amazon worker leads protest outside Jeff Bezos’ $ 16M NYC apartment

Ex-Amazon worker Christian Smalls on Monday led a protest against the corporation’s coronavirus standards outside CEO Jeff Bezos’ $ 16 million apartment in New York City.

Several dozen people appeared after the protest, according to social media videos. Protestants were also there to demand that Amazon allow employees to unite and “impose a federal wealth tax on the top 3% of earners in the United States,” according to a press release from the Smalls group, the Congress of Essential Workers.

“I have workers [who] contact me all the time. They are not protected yet, “Smalls told FOX Business prior to the protest. There are cases in buildings, people are still infected with the virus. … Some people bring the virus home, and relatives die. It is an unfortunate situation that they are deploying their workers. “

Smalls was fired in March after taking a short walk over conditions at a Staten Island warehouse. He quickly got spotlight in the media after he demanded that Amazon’s JFK8 tracking center be shut down for deep cleaning and accused the corporation of lying about how many workers have tested positive for the virus.

“It cost me my career. Guess what? I have no regrets,” Smalls said at Sunday’s protest.

An Amazon spokesman said earlier that Smalls was being prosecuted for “violating social distance guidelines and endangering the safety of others.”

The Smalls group is targeting Bezos after the billionaire made the most significant one-day increase in personal wealth – $ 13 billion – at the end of July. The mogul bought the $ 16 million apartment in New York City in April.
