San Francisco: Sony has announced its own bug bounty program for PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PlayStation Network, and the highest price for hackers finding critical vulnerabilities on PS4 is $ 50,000.
Sony has partnered with the leading security platform HackerOne to help run this bug bounty program.
“We are inviting the security research community, gamers, and anyone else to test the security of the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Network,” Sony said in a statement this week.
The bug bounty program is rewarded for various issues, including critical issues on PS4. Critical vulnerabilities for PS4 have rewards starting at $ 50,000, while for PlayStation Network it’s $ 3,000.
Sony will award a reward to the first hacker to report a previously unreported vulnerability.
“To date, we have been running our bug bounty program privately with some investigators,” Sony reported.
“I am pleased to announce that we have started a public PlayStation Bug Reward Program because the safety of our products is a critical part of creating incredible experiences for our community,” said Geoff Norton, Senior Director of Software Engineering, Sony Interactive Entertainment ( SIE)
Ethical hackers have broken all records by earning $ 100 million in error rewards on the leading security platform HackerOne, an increase of 85.6 percent (year-over-year) in total rewards payment with an increase of 17, 5 percent since Covid-19 was declared a pandemic.
The global hacker community has discovered 170,000 vulnerabilities in nearly 2,000 client programs, changing the way organizations perform security.
In April, $ 5.9 million was paid to ethical hackers to address the growing security needs of an increasingly interconnected society.
