The annual ceremony marks the country’s Navy Day, and this year President Vladimir Putin promised to add 40 new warships to the Russian Navy this year. The parade took place in Saint Petersburg.
With 200 warships and more than 40,000 soldiers, the parade aims to demonstrate the growing power of the Navy, Putin said.
He added that 40 more ships of different classes will enter service this year and all will be equipped with hypersonic weapons that will increase their combat capabilities.
He said: “The widespread deployment of advanced digital technologies that are second to none in the world, including hypersonic attack systems and underwater drones, will give the fleet unique advantages and greater combat capabilities.”
Opening the parade, Putin said six more ships for the far sea area had been deposited in Russia’s three main shipyards in recent days.
The Kremlin has reportedly prioritized military modernization after mounting tensions with the West.
Earlier this week, Putin pledged to continue an ambitious program of building new warships.
He claimed that Russia needs a strong navy to “help maintain strategic balance and global stability.”
The president met with Russia’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu before inspecting warships for Navy Day.

This attack came just a day after the Investigation and Security Committee (ISC) released the Russian report.
The report investigated allegations that Russia had interfered with the UK elections and referendums were launched.
Although the report ruled out that Moscow influenced the Brexit referendum, it attacked the government for not seeing the threat.
Just days before, a Russian group attacked databases to steal vital investigations to combat COVID-19.
The attacks are believed to be part of an push by Putin’s spies to make sure Russia becomes the first to develop a vaccine.
