Just two years ago, the Boston Red Sox won the 2018 World Series after earning a franchise record of 119 wins in the regular season and postseason combined.
The Red Sox will enter the shortened MLB 2020 season as a long shot to claim another championship.
Boston has +3000 to win the World Series in the final title odds on the DraftKings Sportsbook, following Tuesday’s announcement that the 2020 season will actually come after months of tense negotiations between MLB and MLBPA amid the COVID pandemic- 19. The Red Sox also have a +1300 chance of winning the American League pennant. Five teams in the American League have better odds.
Who are the favorites of the World Series? A pair of perennial contenders in the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Here are the updated 2020 championship odds, via DraftKings Sportsbook:
The Nationals are the defending champions for the first time in the team’s history, and they face the challenge of becoming the first repeated World Series winner since the New York Yankees’ three turbos from 1998 to 2000.
The Dodgers have been among the World Series favorites for much of the past decade. LA has made the playoffs in seven consecutive seasons, a career that includes four appearances in the National League Championship Series and two appearances in the World Series (both losses). The Dodgers have recently come very close to ending their title drought of more than 30 years, but finishing the job has been pretty difficult. That said, the acquisition of superstar outfielder Mookie Betts in a trade with the Red Sox earlier this year has renewed hopes for the World Series again in Los Angeles.
