Fans remember the late actor

If your favorite Robin Williams movie is “Good Will Hunting,” “Mrs. Doubtfire” or “Patch Adams,” be sure to check it out as soon as possible, as the actor and comedian would have turned 69 today.

On Tuesday, fans of the late star, who died six years ago, shared his birthday wishes and memories on social media to celebrate his life.

“I had the honor of meeting Robin Williams in Afghanistan,” US Army veteran David Weissman tweeted to his 167,400 followers. “He was [a] Strong supporter of soldiers. #HappyBirthdayRobinWilliams. “

“Robin Williams felt immortal in a way that is difficult to articulate, but we didn’t know until we lost it,” writer Charlotte Clymer wrote to her 315,500 followers. “And like many, for years afterward, I would forget that he died and would be surprised to remember him. The death of no other person has seemed so to me.

Born on July 21, 1951 in Chicago, Williams killed himself at his home north of San Francisco on August 11, 2014, just a month after his 63rd birthday. His sudden death sparked worldwide shocks and without suicide note, he left many wondering what really happened.

Reports attribute severe depression and Parkinson’s, but it turned out that Williams had developed Lewy body dementia, a diagnosis made only on autopsy. The second most common progressive dementia, after Alzheimer’s disease, incurable brain disease begins with memory problems and worsens with personality changes, psychiatric symptoms, including psychosis, and death.

That led some fans to tweet the Williams quote: “Everyone you know is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be nice. Always.”

Williams, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 1998 for “Good Will Hunting,” also had the Golden Globes and Emmy Awards to his credit. He totaled 65 wins and 85 nominations, which also included Grammy, Kids’ Choice and Peabody Awards.

Beyond memories and accomplishments, people also tweeted about Williams’ sense of style, including a photo of him in a patterned shirt with matching shoes.

But a user named Randy Bish made it more personal.

“Today Robin Williams and I share a birthday,” he tweeted. “The world could surely use his humor today.”
