‘Fallout’ series from ‘Westworld’ Creators in the Works at Amazon – Variety

Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have set out to create another expansive science fiction series.

The “Westworld” duo are developing an Amazon show based on the “Fallout” video game franchise. His Kilter Films banner is producing the project that has an attached series commitment penalty, meaning it would go straight to the series if Amazon executives are on board with the scripts.

The “Fallout” series, which began in 1997 with the original game, unfolds in a world where the future envisioned by Americans in the late 1940s explodes upon itself through nuclear war in 2077. With his project From Amazon, Nolan and Joy will look to bring “the harshness of the moor versus the previous generation’s utopian idea of a better world through nuclear power” to the small screen. The project will seek to retain the “rough tone” of the games, ensuring that it is still “peppered with moments of tongue-in-cheek humor and nuclear B-movie fantasies” that players in the epic franchise know and love.

The series comes from Amazon Studios and Kilter Films in association with the producers of the games Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks. Nolan and Lisa Joy, who signed a global deal with Amazon last year, will be executive producers alongside Athena Wickham for Kilter Films, with Todd Howard for EP for Bethesda Game Studios and James Altman for Bethesda Softworks.

“’Fallout’ is one of the best game series of all time. Each chapter of this incredibly imaginative story has cost us countless hours that we could have spent with family and friends. So we are incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant fools at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive and darkly fun universe to life with Amazon Studios, “Joy and Nolan said in a joint statement.

“Fallout” is the last video game to receive treatment on television. The news of the project comes around four months after it emerged that HBO is adapting another iconic post-apocalyptic game, “The Last Of Us,” for television. A “Halo” series is also in the works on Showtime, and a feature based on “Borderlands” currently has Cate Blanchett circling one of the lead roles.

“In the past decade, we have seen many ways to bring ‘Fallout’ to the screen,” said Howard. “But it was clear from the moment I first spoke to Jonah and Lisa a few years ago that they and Kilter’s team were the ones who did well. We are huge fans of their work and we couldn’t be more excited to work with them and with Amazon Studios. “

“’Fallout’ is an iconic global franchise, with legions of fans worldwide and a rich and deeply compelling story that powers it. And Jonah and Lisa are the perfect storytellers to bring this series to life, “added Albert Cheng, COO and co-director of television at Amazon Studios.” We are delighted to be teaming up with Bethesda to bring Fallout to television.

Under their Amazon deal, Nolan and Joy are currently in pre-production on the thriller series “The Peripheral,” based on the William Gibson novel. The show follows a woman in a near-future United States where technology has subtly begun to alter society.
