A leading technology entrepreneur from international ride-sharing companies was found dead in New York.
Fahim Saleh’s body was found dismembered in a flat on Monday afternoon, according to US media reports.
The businessman was best known for his role in creating popular new businesses in Nigeria and Bangladesh.
Police have made no public comment on the case or on any identity, but Gokada, one of the firms co-founded by Saleh, tweeted to confirm his death.
“We are deeply saddened to inform you of the sudden and tragic loss of our founder and CEO, Fahim Saleh,” the firm said on Wednesday.
According to US media reports, CCTV footage of the building Saleh lived in showed him entering an elevator with a man in a mask on Monday.
His body was reportedly discovered decapitated and dismembered, with an electric saw placed nearby.
An unidentified police source told the New York Post that the crime scene looked like a “professional” murder.
Who Was Fahim Saleh?
The 33-year-old son of immigrants from Bangladesh created his first company while still in high school.
He then co-founded the Pathao travel company, which is popular in Bangladesh and Nepal, in 2015.
Most recently, he helped found the Nigerian motorcycle taxi app Gokada, but the company faced a setback after authorities in Lagos banned motorcycle taxis earlier this year.
Both companies have paid tribute to the entrepreneur.
Gokada described Saleh as “a great leader, inspiration and positive light for all of us” in his tweet.
Hussein M. Elius, Pathao’s co-founder with Saleh, told the Bangladesh Daily Star newspaper: “Fahim believed in the potential of technology to transform lives in Bangladesh and beyond.
“He saw the promise in us when all we had was a common purpose and a shared vision. It was, and will forever remain, an incredible inspiration for Pathao and our entire ecosystem.”
