Face masks are “more effective”, according to new COVID-19 studies

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – More concern over the spread of COVID-19 in Douglas County. New numbers show that hospitalizations have increased.

Dr. Douglas, Douglas County Health Director, shared these numbers on Tuesday:

For the week ending July 16, metropolitan hospitals had 65 patients with COVID-19. As of today, that number amounts to 89 patients with COVID-19 who are hospitalized. Dr. Pour says that is even more evidence of why a mask mandate is important.

“From a public health and healthcare point of view, we know that we only have a few tools that we can work with right now, especially since we don’t have a vaccine,” he said.

Omaha’s mask mandate is expected to begin Monday.

Lincoln’s face mask mandate is in its second week. It requires masks in closed places where social distancing cannot be guaranteed.

Dr. Pour told the county board that she hears people questioning whether the masks work. So she read the conclusions of five doctors who studied the science of 115 studies and only published their findings.

“There is now compelling evidence from multiple controlled experiments that masks work. They prevent infected people from spreading the virus through their drops, ”she said. “The masks are highly safe with only minor and rare side effects. And the last sentence is ‘Masks can be the most effective and powerful tools to stop COVID-19’. “

Douglas County reported two new deaths from COVID-19 on Tuesday, totaling 124.
