The Playground Games Fable game is reportedly to be an MMO set in the Lionhead fantasy universe, and not a direct sequel to the original trilogy.
The rumor stems from French journalist @CronoTK on Twitter, who accurately forecast the full line of the Xbox Games Showcase ahead of the broadcast yesterday, and thus has a way to leak unverified information about upcoming Xbox Series X games.
Et pour le plus grand bonheur de @SireGoupil: un jeu dans l’univers de FABLE. More in MMO (désolé, pas FABLE 4). July 23, 2020
After the end of the Microsoft show, ChronoTK tweeted the above, which, when translated, states that the recently revealed Xbox Series X exclusive will be “a game in the world of Fable. […] an MMO (sorry, not Fable 4). “
Microsoft itself described the Fable title of Playground as “a whole new start” for the acclaimed RPG series, although neither the publisher nor the studio has revealed much more than that.
The teaser trailer confirmed that the game will return to Albion and features the classic British humor that Lionhead spearheaded with his original trilogy on the Xbox 360 days.
Whatever Fable ends up being, we are unlikely to have it in our hands anytime soon, and it should be said that ChronoTK’s statements should be taken with a lot of salt. For now, let’s enjoy the fact that Fable has returned to our lives and is ready to start the next generation with a bang.
