Traditionally, Xbox has had a harder time entering the Japanese video game market, but Xbox Director Phil Spencer is confident that Series X will advance in the region.
Speaking during Xbox’s TGS 2020 exhibit, Spencer addressed Xbox’s desire to better serve Japanese gamers, noting that some of its efforts are already paying off.
Xbox Game Pass launched on Xbox consoles and PCs in Japan this year, and Spencer notes that since then “they have seen more players on Xbox devices, games and services than at any time in our history on the market” since they did.
Comparing this summer with the summer of the previous year, it stands out that the monthly active users of Xbox Live in Japan have grown by 82 percent, although exact figures are unfortunately not provided to develop the data behind that percentage increase.
Xbox is also looking to bring cloud games to Japan in the first half of 2021, likely through the launch of the Japanese xCloud Project, although the specific service is not mentioned in the video.
“Japan is our fastest growing region in the world,” says Spencer. “We learn from the past. This year we are expanding our global vision with the goal of launching our products in Japan at the same time as the rest of the world, including our new console, which will launch day and date in our largest global markets. “
