LOS ANGELES: Netflix is collaborating with game company Ubisoft for a live-action series on the popular video game “Assassin’s Creed.” In a statement, Netflix and Ubisoft announced that they will develop a list of properties based on the best-selling game.
The first series has been described as an “epic, genre-bending live-action adaptation” and the two companies are currently looking for a showrunner.
The “Assassin’s Creed” franchise launched in 2007 and has since sold more than 155 million games worldwide.
It depicts a struggle in the ancient world between the Assassins and their power-hungry rivals, the Templars, and weaves its drama through historical events and characters.
“For more than 10 years, millions of fans around the world have helped turn the ‘Assassin’s Creed’ brand into an iconic franchise. We are delighted to create an ‘Assassin’s Creed’ series with Netflix and look forward to developing the next series. the ‘Assassin’s Creed’ universe, “said Jason Altman, Director of Film and Television at Ubisoft, Los Angeles.
Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s vice president of original series, said the streamer is excited to partner with Ubisoft to develop a “rich, multi-layered storytelling” universe.
