FIFA 21 is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S / X on December 4. EA Sports announced the release date for the next-gen version of FIFA 21 on Tuesday, saying it would share more details on the next-gen features in “the next few weeks.” What we know so far is faster load times. (thanks to the built-in SSD on the PS5 and Xbox series), a new delayed lighting system and improved visuals, immersion and player movement (pre-game cinematics, players screaming for passes, and improved animations).
FIFA 21 Review: Goals Galore
If you haven’t bought FIFA 21 yet, you can pick it up from the PlayStation or Microsoft Store starting at Rs. 3,999. FIFA 21 on PS5 and Xbox Series S / X is digital only. If you already own FIFA 21 on PS4 or Xbox One, you are guaranteed a free copy on PS5 or Xbox Series S / X respectively, under EA’s “Dual Ownership” program. With one caveat: You must download FIFA 21 on your next generation console before the release of FIFA 22. It is expected to be around September / October 2021.
How does the free update process work?
That depends on the version you choose. If you have FIFA 21 on disc, you will need to insert it into PS5 or Xbox Series X to authenticate. If you have FIFA 21 on disc and end up getting the PS5 Digital Edition or Xbox Series S, you will need to contact EA Support to validate your purchase. And if you bought FIFA 21 digitally, you can simply download it from the PlayStation or Microsoft Store on your new next-gen console.
With the launch of new consoles in November: Xbox Series S / X on November 10 and PlayStation 5 on November 12 (in North America, Oceania, Japan, Korea and Singapore) and November 19 (rest of the world), that means prospective owners. You will have to wait a few weeks to experience the next generation of FIFA. But you don’t have to wait until December 4 to play FIFA 21 on PS5 or Xbox Series S / X. That’s because the game is backward compatible. Before December 4, playing FIFA 21 on PS5 is like playing it on PS4 Pro, Xbox One S for Xbox Series S, and Xbox One X for Xbox Series X.
Although the experience may be the same on your shiny new console for a while, you should still consider starting on the PS5 or Xbox Series S / X, if you haven’t already. This is because not all FIFA 21 progress and saved game files will transfer from PS4 or Xbox One to PS5 or Xbox Series S / X respectively. While Ultimate Team and Volta Football will carry over, that’s not the case for online seasons, co-op seasons, career mode, pro clubs, and others.
FIFA 21 comes out December 4 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S / X.
