The Ministry of Women, Children and Youth (MOWCY) is implementing an acquisition mentoring program for adolescent girls as part of the celebration of the International Day of the Girl 2020 this year under the theme: ‘Empowering girls to a brighter tomorrow. ‘

According to the Ministry, the program will help adolescent girls gain insight into the experiences of Ethiopian women leaders and empower themselves to be leaders of the future.

During the mentoring program, adolescent girls assume a leadership role in a political, economic, social, media, entertainment space and play the role of government officials. They also participate in the daily routine activities of the women leaders for a day or at least an hour.

Likewise, government officials assume the responsibility of advising adolescent girls who work in their organization. Consequently, the Minister for Women, Children and Youth, Filson Abdulahi, has taken the first initiative to be a mentor.

The ministry noted that the program is expected to be taken over by other female officials in the coming weeks.

International Day of the Girl exists to recognize the rights of girls and the unique challenges faced by girls around the world. It is also intended to promote the empowerment of girls around the world, while advocating for the achievement of their basic human rights such as education and physical independence.
