Apple’s iOS 14 update finally lets iPhone owners customize that static grid of icons on their smartphone’s home screen with customizable widgets. And iPhone users haven’t wasted time searching Pinterest for inspiration, as data from app analytics companies has shown in recent days.
Pinterest broke its daily download records on September 21, five days after the release of iOS 14, with 616,000 installs, app tracker Apptopia reported according to TechCrunch. Sensor Tower also showed a surge in Pinterest downloads, saying the app broke its record on September 20 with around 800,000 installs worldwide on iOS and Android, according to the TechCrunch report.
Data from App Annie, another app analytics firm, also indicates that Pinterest rose to the top of the iOS App Store charts at the time. Their findings show that Pinterest jumped from 43rd place in Apple’s App Store rankings from September 17 to September 29 on September 18, before jumping to seventh place on September 19.
Pinterest now ranks eighth when it comes to free apps on the iOS App Store, according to App Annie. The number one position is occupied by Widgetsmith, an application that offers widgets for iOS 14.
Pinterest also confirmed to TechCrunch that the increase was not caused by a paid campaign. He told the outlet that the app is seeing organic increases in both downloads and searches related to iOS 14.

Android has offered widgets for years, but Apple only offered widgets on the iPhone’s “Today” view, which can be accessed by swiping to the left of the home screen.
