Man Utd urged signing of “high quality” striker as competition for Marcus Rashford

Man Utd has been urged to sign a “high quality” striker to compete with Marcus Rashford.

The Red Devils failed to replace the Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sánchez who departed last summer, adding to the burden on Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s options have been fueled by the appearance of promising young Mason Greenwood and the arrival of Odion Ighalo’s loan.

But former United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich feels Solskjaer needs to add more firepower to cover his main star.

“We saw Marcus Rashford’s injury, and they had to go and basically get another striker in Ighalo so quickly,” Bosnich told Sky Sports. “I think they need to get stronger in that area to make sure they have high-quality endorsement.”

“That is not disrespectful to Ighalo because it has been absolutely fantastic since he came in. If I had to choose one [position to strengthen], it would be there. “

United has been strongly linked with a move for Harry Kane, although the The Tottenham striker certainly would not be heading to Old Trafford to play the second fiddle for Rashford.

In any event, United’s spending is likely to be seriously affected this summer due to the economic impact of the coronvirus crisis.

United Executive Vice President Ed Woodward has already informed club fans that it will not be “business as usual” for the Premier League giants.

“I can fully understand why Ed Woodward says that, and that will be the same across the board, and not just with Manchester United, all football clubs and almost all sports,” added Bosnich.

“We all know that it will take time for things to return to what they once were.”

A possible alternative to a big-money signing could be PSG striker Edinson Cavani, who is available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Cavani’s PSG contract will expire in June, with no sign that he will accept new terms.

L’Equipe reports that United are “serious candidates” to get the signature of the 33-year-old, although the Uruguayan is also on the radar of Atlético de Madrid and David Beckham’s Miami team, Inter Miami.
