Epic Games Vice President of Engineering Nick Penwarden recently stated that the PS5 is a “masterpiece of system design.”
The news comes from an interview with the official PlayStation magazine, which has since been republished in digital format by GamesRadar.
Penwarden participated in the creation of the nine-minute Unreal Engine 5 technology demo that was unveiled last month, which featured new Unreal Engine 5 native Lumen and Nanite technology systems.
“The PlayStation 5 is a masterpiece of system design,” Penwarden told the official PlayStation Magazine. “Not only is it driving a huge leap in computing and graphics performance, but it’s also revolutionary in terms of storage and data compression technology, unlocking new types of games and experiences for players to enjoy.”
“State-of-the-art graphics and processing power will not only make games more immersive, but will also enable entirely new game concepts that can take advantage of fully dynamic environments and lighting, much better physics, smarter artificial intelligence and multiplayer experiences richer, “added Epic Games CTO Kim Libreri.
This is not surprising given that Epic Games had to rewrite part of Unreal Engine 5 to keep up with the PS5’s SSD. However, a former Xbox leader has stated that Xbox will eventually learn to tackle Sony’s SSD edge.
In addition to being a “system design masterpiece,” there are currently a variety of new patents and features in the works at Sony. Apparently, a patent was recently filed in which the PS5 would use machine learning to create a user interface designed to help gamers who are stuck by showing them the game from others. Meanwhile, Sony also patented a new “Information Processing Device” that closely resembles Xbox Snap.
Sony already announced a variety of games slated to hit PS5 at its PS5 event last month.
