I still can’t believe Master Chi doesn’t exist anymore. Losing a friend, philosopher, and guide like her is devastating. It was difficult for me to leave my sorrow in words. I spoke to her daughter when she was in the hospital and she said that Saroj hee would be fine. Two days later, she was gone. ⁣⁣ The Guru-shishya bond we share, the assurance that she would be my mother on set, I will miss everything. Today, on the occasion of Guru Purnima, I pay tribute to her. ⁣⁣ ⁣ No one can make women look as beautiful, desirable, and sensual on screen as she does. She made it all seem like poetry in motion. Moved by her, I said, “Saroji ji, agar aap shakkar hoti na, I would add you to my cup of tea and drink it.” She would laugh heartily at this. I will miss that playful laugh. ⁣ The first time I met her was while shooting for Maine Rab Se of Karma. Saroj ji asked me so many questions, one of them was ‘Where did you learn to dance?’ Unfortunately, our sequence was removed from the song. I will miss your many questions. O Saroj Khan was a game changer in the industry. She was the rebel in the male dominated profession. There were difficult aspects to her personality and I think it’s because life has been quite uneven for her. I will miss that determined and headstrong woman. ⁣⁣ Dancing in front of the camera and dancing on stage are two different things. Saroj hee taught me how to do a romance with the camera when we worked on Ek Do Teen. Such was the popularity of the song that Filmfare had to create the Best Choreography category to honor Saroj ji. I will miss your resolve to push the envelope all the time. ⁣⁣ ⁣ Su Nazakat, the aadayein, the elegance of every movement, was fascinated. I knew we would do a lot of songs together.
