Ellen DeGeneres’ reputation is in a free fall, and seeing the respect that the talk show host once had, she has a long way to go. But even in the midst of serious accusations, DeGeneres’ celebrity friends want to support her. Stars like Katy Perry and Kevin Hart recommended their defense. Too bad the audience doesn’t agree.

DeGeneres has been the host of The Ellen DeGeneres Show since 2003, and was generally believed to be a friendly, loving person. She received public support after joining as a lesbian in 1997, and has since emerged as a hero to the LGBTQ + community. Her personal motto is ‘Be friendly’, and she has donated extensively to those in need.
Unfortunately, her loving reputation may have all been part of the show. In mid-July, BuzzFeed published an article claiming that The Ellen DeGeneres Show was a toxic work environment. The piece included multiple statements from former employees who claimed they had been treated unfairly. She described an atmosphere of racism, fear, and intimidation.
“I think it’s a lot of smoke and mirrors when it comes to the show’s brand,” said one former employee. ‘They attract the heartstrings of men; they know that gets likes and what people go to, which is a positive message. But that is not always the reality. ”
After the piece was published, more people came forward with horrific stories about the way they were treated online, than by DeGeneres himself. In fact, it seems that tension around their brand has been building up for months.
In March, cabaret artist Kevin T. Porter arrived asked Twitter for “the hottest stories you’ve ever heard about Ellen [DeGeneres] be mean. “He received thousands of comments and stories in response.
“I worked for her, I was instructed that I could not look her in the eye and never ever said to her first,” one person wrote in response to Porter’s tweet. ” But do not worry, she will not speak against you in the first place. ‘ She creates the most toxic environment for her staff. ”
Celebrities come to the defense of Ellen DeGeneres
While horror stories around DeGeneres increased exponentially, many of the talk show host’s A-list friends came to their aid. Ashton Kutcher, Katy Perry, Kevin Hart, Diane Keaton, Jay Leno, and controversial music director Scooter Braun are some of the celebrities who have posted supportive posts about DeGeneres on their social media accounts.
“I know I can not speak for my own experience for anyone else, but I want to admit that I have only had positive takeaways from my time with Ellen & on the @theellenshow …” Perry wrote as part of in series of tweets defending DeGeneres.
But even with Hollywood distinction, the public did not jump to forgive DeGeneres.
Critics buy no famous support for Ellen DeGeneres
Most of the celebrities who tweeted in support got a wave of backlash. Fans rightly pointed out that the treatment that a celebrity, as a guest, receives on the show will not be the same as someone who works for them.
One person respond to Perry’s tweet with a suggested edit, crossing out everything except the words, “I can not speak for experience of anyone other than my own.”
Leno supported DeGeneres because of her donations to charity. “… The Ellen I know has raised more than $ 125 million dollars for charity and has always been a friendly and decent person. I fully support her, ‘he said tweeted.
Fans found his comments laughing. Just because someone donates money does not mean they are a good person, especially since DeGeneres is one of the highest paid celebrities in the world.
The talk show hosts itself promoted Leno’s tweet with sarcasm, writing “It’s normal that Jay Leno knows exactly how much money I have raised for charity. Thanks Jay! ”
Actually, it’s pretty normal, if anyone can find out this information with a simple Google search. But that was not the only problem the audience had with Leno’s tweet. One woman claimed that Leno may have even received this information from a digital campaign package.
‘As someone who does digital strategy, I can recognize a digital campaign when I see one. These fools got an ‘I Love Ellen’ toolkit via Google Drive full of tweets that they could copy and paste and here we are … ‘ @KiaSpeaks tweeted.
According to Dummies, digital marketing campaigns include “coordinated actions intended to achieve a specific business goal.” They are often issued by companies or promotional companies of any kind, including promotion to celebrity. So, it is quite possible that DeGeneres’ team sent a package to repair their reputation. But of course we will never know.
One thing is for sure, fans do not fall for famous mention for DeGeneres. There are just too many stories of bad behavior from her, and her senior staff, to polish more under the rug. We must never let DeGeneres return to her elevated position.
