Ellen DeGeneres Called Brad Garrett Over Toxic Claims in the Workplace: ‘Common Knowledge’


Brad Garrett called Ellen DeGeneres for her apologies to the staff, noting that the stories of the allegedly toxic work environment on her daytime talk show were “common knowledge.”

After numerous accusations by current and former employees of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” about a toxic work environment that prompted WarnerMedia to initiate an internal investigation, the hostess finally spoke in a memo to staff.

“On the first day of our show, I told everyone at our first meeting that ‘Ellen DeGeneres Show’ would be a place of happiness: no one would raise their voices and everyone would be treated with respect,” he began. “Obviously, something changed, and I am disappointed to know that this has not been the case. And so I am sorry. Anyone who knows me knows that it is the opposite of what I believe and what I expected for our show.”

However, the “Everybody Loves Raymond” star turned to Twitter to essentially say that the apology that comes after all this time is not enough.

“Sorry, but it comes from the top @TheEllenShow. Meet more than one person who was horribly treated by her. Common knowledge,” he wrote.

As People points out, Garrett, 60, appeared as a guest on Ellen’s show six times between 2004 and 2007. However, he did not specify what claims he heard about Ellen’s work environment or who he knew had a bad experience with her. .

Garrett’s representatives did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.

The drama on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” began in April when reports circulated alleging that program staff were not informed of the status of their salary or employment in the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic.

Additionally, reports of the 62-year-old comedian’s own “cold” behavior, including her former bodyguard, became numerous.

In July, BuzzFeed published an explosive story with testimonies from several current and former anonymous employees, who accused the spectacle of, among other things, racism, intimidation, unfair dismissal and more.

DeGeneres continued, explaining that as the program “grew exponentially,” it had to turn to others for self-management, which some employees did not.

“That will now change and I am committed to ensuring that this does not happen again,” she said.

The “Finding Dory” star cited her own past struggles: she almost lost her career when it came out as a reason to have compassion for those who are treated differently.

“It has been too long, but we are finally having conversations about fairness and justice. We all need to be more aware of how our words and actions affect others, and I am glad that the problems on our show have led to my attention, “she said. “I promise to do my part to continue to pressure myself and everyone around me to learn and grow. It is important to me and to Warner Bros. that everyone who has something to say can speak up and feel confident doing so.”

The comedian concluded: “I am very proud of the work we do and the fun and joy that we all help develop in the world. I want everyone at home to love our show and I want everyone who loves it to work on it.” Again, I am very sorry for anyone who has not had that experience. If it wasn’t for COVID, I would have done it in person, and I can’t wait to get back on stage and see them all. “
