Eight new cases today, July 20 – Redheaded Blackbelt

Eight new cases of COVID-19 were reported today, bringing the total number of residents who tested positive for the virus to 189. Today marked the first case of community transmission since June 17. Some cases are still under investigation.

Dr. Teresa Frankovich, Humboldt County Health Officer, noted that while this is the first reported case of community transmission in more than a month, it is important to note that COVID-19 is circulating within our county. “We have had cases in all regions of our county, and we have people who travel in and out of our county, so it is good to assume that when you are away from home you can meet someone with COVID-19. The possibility of this exposure will only increase over time, “he said.

“No matter where you live or work, you can be as safe as possible by following all preventive measures, such as proper hand washing, wearing face covers and social distancing,” said Dr. Frankovich. He added that contacts that occur outdoors are safer than those that are indoors, just as brief contacts that occur with a face covering in place and at a distance of six feet decrease the risk of transmission.
