Those in charge of the YouTube site decided this year to refrain from producing a video that is presented at the end of each year to remember the highlights, due to the Corona virus epidemic.
Since 2010, the video sharing platform has been producing an annual video called “Rewind.” Some of the YouTube stars appear in each video, highlighting the most prominent users traded during the year.
But YouTube managers said in a statement: “The year 2020 was different. It is not good to continue this trend as if it were not.”
These videos often divide the audience. The 2018 video became YouTube’s most hated video.
And in 2019, YouTube changed the nature of the annual video, turning it into a collection of clips “most liked” during the year, based on the number of times users clicked the Like button.
Journalist Chris Stockell-Walker, concerned about YouTube and other social platforms, lamented the cancellation of the annual video, because YouTube has become “an important source of entertainment and support for people during the pandemic.”
But he added: “There hasn’t been much on YouTube this year. It’s been overtaken and surpassed, as a hotspot, by smart apps like TikTok.”
“Recovery videos have always featured a similar set of characters since their launch in 2010, but the potential list of people who could have participated seemed more out of date than before in 2020 compared to other platforms,” he concluded.
