Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced Sunday that his country “will not participate and will not be blessed in the race toward normalization with Israel.”
This came in an interview with President Tebboune with local media, excerpts of which were reported by Algerian state television, which will be broadcast in its entirety later on Sunday evening.
Tebboune said: “I see that there is a kind of rush towards normalization, and we will not participate in it or bless it. The Palestinian question remains sacred to us and to the Algerian people as a whole.”
He continued: “There is no solution to the Palestinian problem except with a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. If this state is declared, it will solve the Middle East problem.”
He stressed that “the key to solving the problems of the Middle East is the Palestinian question.”
Tebboune’s statements are Algeria’s first official reaction to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain signing two normalization agreements with Israel.
