The president of the Qatar Federation, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, said that the participation “is an ideal opportunity to improve the performance of our national team through contact with international teams such as Portugal, the League champion. Nations Cup, winner of the 2016 European Nations Cup and other teams from the same group. “
The first group includes Portugal, Serbia, Ireland, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan.
And due to its participation in the final as host country, Qatar’s results will not be counted in the classification of the group for which its champion qualifies directly to the final, while the second competes with a classified supplement.
The draw for the European qualifiers was withdrawn last Monday, with ten groups of which ten teams qualify directly to the final plus three through the play-offs.
Three rounds will take place in March, before qualifying matches in September, October and November.
The Qatari team won the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates for the first time in its history, and last year it participated in the Copa América with an invitation card, and will also compete in the next edition in Argentina and Colombia. .
