Will Twinget’s “potential” retirement raise Zamalek’s hopes?

The Senegal Football Association’s decision to suspend football activity indefinitely has sparked speculation about the fate of the Twinget team in the group stage of the African Champions League.

Despite the decision to suspend activity in Senegal last Friday, the team played its third group stage match against MCA the following day.

Twinget is in the fourth group of the Champions League group stage, behind the group with one point, behind leader Esperance with seven points, then Mouloudia with five points in the runner-up and Zamalek in third place with two points.

The decision by Twinget and Senegalese federation officials to confront Mouloudia of Algeria came alongside mounting rumors and news in the Egyptian media about the continued possibility of his withdrawal.

In the event of a withdrawal, which is still in the pipeline until now, this decision will not affect Zamalek’s career and their hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the African Champions League.

The list of the African Champions League is divided into two parts regarding the withdrawal of any team from the group stage, the first if the withdrawal was during the first three matches of the group, and the other if they had played the same three fighting or not.

According to the text of Clause 13 in the withdrawal article of the regulation:

“A team that withdraws after the start of the group stage and before playing 50% of its matches with it, all its results will be canceled.”

In other words, Twinget’s withdrawal would have affected Zamalek’s career in the Champions League if he had announced his withdrawal from the tournament before the last match against MCA, and at that time his results in previous matches would have been canceled.

Regarding Clause No. 14 of the aforementioned article, it establishes:

“If the team withdraws after playing all the matches of the first half in the group stage, it will be considered defeated in the remaining matches by three earned goals.”

And based on Twinget playing his last game against MCA, if he withdraws from the tournament, his past results will not be canceled, and he will be deemed beaten in all that comes by three earned goals.

Twinget’s virtual defeat in the event of his retirement will not affect Zamalek’s position in the champion groups, especially since it will add only three points for Esperance, Mouloudia and the representative of Egypt, so that they are all in their place in the competition. .
